In the blockchain space, transaction throughput is the rate at which valid transactions are committed by a blockchain network in a defined time period. The throughput of a given blockchain is often expressed by the number of transactions per second (tps).
Due to blockchain scalability problem it's impossible to increase the transaction throughput of single-chain blockchain networks similar to Bitcoin without compromising on key blockchain properties such as security and decentralisation.
