Stablecoin is a cryptocurrency that is pegged to, or interchangeable with the value of an asset like gold or fiat currency.
History
The first stablecoin was Tether - originally called "Realcoin" - which launched in 2014. [1]
Classification of stablecoins
In general, stablecoins can be classified in three categories: off-chain collateralized, on-chain collateralized, and algorithmic. [2]
